Saint-Gobain (Courbevoie, France) announced what is said to be the world’s first production of zero-carbon flat glass. This technological feat was achieved by using 100% recycled glass (cullet) and 100% green energy, produced from biogas and decarbonized electricity. It was implemented for one week in Saint-Gobain’s flat glass manufacturing plant in Aniche, northern France. By mobilizing the network of partners developed by Saint-Gobain, the focus was placed on circularity, with the use of 100% cullet from end-of-life glass from renovation or demolition sites and from production offcuts. The Group’s industrial and research teams succeeded in adjusting all of the furnace’s technical ...

Article from Physics.org. Read HEREResearchers will soon be studying materials samples on the ISS. The materials in question are super-hard and corrosion-resistant alloys of palladium, nickel, copper and phosphorus—also known as metallic glasses. A high-tech company from La Chaux-de-Fonds, which produces materials for the watch industry, is also involved. These materials have the color of white gold, but are hard like quartz glass and at the same time exhibit high elasticity. Their smooth surface is free of crystalline structures which makes the materials resistant to salts or acids. Individual pieces—for medical implants, for example—can be produced using 3D printing, while larger series—for watch cases, for ...

One of the challenges in any glass processing companies is ensuring that all of their workers are well-trained and knowledgeable in their respective works. This however requires a lot of efforts not just for the newly hired workers but for the trainers as well.Companies will rely on the people working on the shop floor for all of the information that newly hired employees shall acquire as they join the company. Having large amount of information that they need to absorb, it will be quite difficult to ensure that new employees are indeed able to get all the information that they ...
